web research and template evulation

researching website design technolagys
PHP

is a general purpose server scripting lunguage which was origanally designed for web develpment produceing dynamic web pages which for this purpose can be embeded into html document and translated by a PHP prossesor which generates the web page php can be used with most web servers and stand alone interpreter it also has been dramatically ajusted to accomidate a command line interface and standalone graphical applications it can be used with virtually ever operating system on the market for free of charge PHP has a wide use globally installing over 1 million servers and 20 million indipendant websites it is a massive competeator MASP (microsoft active server pages).

Rasmus Lerdorf began production on PHP  in 1994 creating a set of personal homepage tools

 HTML
hyper text markup lunguage elements included with Html make up the basics of every webpage in the predominant markup lunguage for web pages, Html is made up of elements consisting of tags enclosed angled brackets that work in pairs like <h1> </h1> however some are independant including empty spaces like <img>

the HTML provides documents readable by web browers which in turn creates them as visual information like a text or imagery the tags are not read they are however used as guidlines for the bowser for it to interprit the content HTML  provides the means to structure documents and isolate and catigories things like headings, titles paragraphs, links ,quotes and other independant items which allows the web page to imbed images and objects as wel as interactive to be instituted it can also be used with alternative lunguages like java script.

HTTP
hyper text transfer protocal  is the foundatio for communication and distribution of hybermedia information systems for the worlwide web, HTTP works as a request response client which is inputed from a web application ( server) to a web browser (client) and then returning it the http is created to accelerate and inhanse this prosses.

 Research Website design issues

 yale university school of art
the asthetic qualaties of this webpage are very poor in terms of visualls it has been overall poorly designed or organised, the background is too dominant and paired with the poor quality of text and text placement draws your attention more to the cheesey motto than any of the pages relevant information the terrible chocie to isolate each paragraph into text boxs and to fill each of them with a bizar pallite of colours makes the text difficult and un attractive to read, however a small posative is that each page has a qwircky animation in the background, whilst this is uniqe and intresting it could probobly become frustrating after a small amount of time as the animations instantly repeat themselfs coupled with the fact that they extremly small and placed in tiles pattarning the pages make them increadably annoying.

the accsses speed is slower than average however it is usually unnoticeable.

the content of the webpage is catigorised alphabetically in a small text box to the upper far left corner
the conent itself is just individual pages of subject relevant information rangeing from the students currently in the school , to the schools facilaties courses and undergoing changes all these are clearly well labled however the way inwhich the content is organised may not be as sufficent as each page seems to have its information spread about.

the website is a fixed layout which makes it even more difficult to accsses and read.

the websites navigation is basic but easy to use and seems to have no major flaws or problems.

the readability and consitansy are both poor, the font size is extremely small and allmost imposible
to read  paired with the positioning and chocie of colour the webpages readablity is extremely poor as for the consistancy of the web page there is none, the layout and format (bar the navigation bar on the left hand side) changes with every page making it hard to identifi content.

#5 contender for worst web site of 2010

this website has very few asthetic qualaties the first most noteable flaw are the background images, they are extremly poor qualaties they are also poorerly tiled or paired together however most importantly these images serve no real purpose rather than to fill a blank space in the background.
secondly the pages layout is horrible the main title is a quater way down the page and all the pages relevant and non relevant information is scatterd all overe the page making it hard to determin what exactly your reading.
the fonts used on the webpage are readable however there size and shape are extremely varied making it hard to determin there meaning.
another major flaw is that all the content is on the same page there are no other pages meaning there is virtually no navigation around the page it also shows no thought was put behind the pages origanisation of content during its design prosses.

the asthetic qualaties of this web page are varied the display and main title are well designed simple yet very effective, bright and cheery yet sutile and easly readable.
navigation and usability of the webpage are very good quality, everything is easliy identifiable and very easy to learn and re-use its also easy to identify what is what on the website.
on of the minor flaws of the website is that it is a fixed webpage which can make it a little bit difficult to use properly.

500 word website template evaluation
during these first few weeks we learned the basics of website design and how to use Adobe Dreamweaver in a fairly basic way by creating a website template for a fictional hotel.

During this exersise i learned a fairly large ammount of information about both website design in general as well as using dreamweaver, learning various points about what can make or breack a websites succses both visually and internally as well as what programs/software can be used to script a website,  my experiance in dreamweaver was allthough fairly basic seemed easy to grasp with a few bumps of difficulty along the way for example i had few problems changeing visual details with CSS
internationally however this was eventually overcome  the exersise involved us creating a website template learning how to create pages , link them up , keep consistancy between them all , adding content to them like images ,and backgrounds most of which im confident i could repeat in the future.

the reason behind this exersise was to learn basics of dreamweaver as well as to understand webdesign in detail , to see if we could create a template for a website and wether or not we understood the importance of visual elements in web design.
All of what ive learned from this task will be usefull for most if not all future tasks under website design as well as any projects i under take that will involve some digree of web design.
